EMC Public Member Bios

Richard Frederic has lived in the Kenai area for 30 years. A retired science teacher with 33 years teaching experience, 20 teaching biology, he brings significant scientific understanding to the EMC and ability to communicate science to the public. Frederic earned a BS and MS in Science Education from Oregon State University. As Kenail Peninsula Borough School District science teacher, Frederic’s projects included National Geographic Teacher Alliance, POLAIS science project, Caring for the Kenai, Arctic Project and Alaska Mentor Teachers Program. Richard and his wife, Diane, chose to settle and raise their three children on the Kenai Peninsula due to the amazing professional opportunities, as well as the outdoor experiences available.

Richard said he and his family “love the beauty and outdoors opportunities, such as fishing, kayaking, snow machining, river rafting, and boating out of Homer and in Cook Inlet with my fishing boat.”
