Risk assessment team identifies ways to reduce maritime risks in Cook Inlet

AOOS Launches Cook Inlet Response Tool

The U.S. Coast Guard issues navigation safety advisory for Phase II operating procedures for Cook Inlet ice conditions. Phase I still in effect.

USCG APPROVES RECERTIFICATION - Read the letter from Rear Admiral Thomas Ostebo, Commander 17th Coast Guard District.

QUARTERLY COUNCIL MEETING - Presentations from the December 7th Board meeting have been posted. The next Council and Annual meetings have been scheduled for May 3, 2013, at the CI Aquaculture Association Building, K-Beach Road, in Kenai.

Legacy Award

On March 24, 1989, the oil tanker, Exxon Valdez ran aground on Bligh Reef in Alaska’s Prince William Sound. The incident also changed forever the way crude oil is transported in the United States.

In the aftermath of the Exxon oil spill, Congress crafted a comprehensive oil spill prevention bill. The Oil Pollution Act (OPA) of 1990 is the result of public hearings around the state where citizens and local government leaders demanded public involvement in the oversight of oil transportation.
